Valoon

The work of art is hanging in the inner court yard of Helsinki prison.
All the traffic, in or out, goes through this space.
The inner court yard is where the inside of the prison begins and outside ends.
Valoon is seen by everybody passing the space.

This is the first commissioned work of art in Finnish prisons.
It was made possible by UUTTA-project of Arts Council of Helsinki Metropolitan Region.

Hanging ribbons of chrome-plated pearls make together a rotation geometry.

The form widens upward also when looked through the central hole.

The material used is familiar. The same you find connecting a bung with a sink.
