Senegal

I got possibility to spend January in excellent
artists' residence of Waaw in Saint-Louis.

I made there a small work of art, which runs by solar energy.
It consists of two beams moving to opposite directions.
Light is of the Sun and the movement is its movement.
The beams meet daily on the wall across from Waaw entrance.

The noon (of the Sun) moves during the year.

In Waaw I also studied French, drumming and dance.
At end of the language course we were asked to write a short essay:
Tell, what you learned and found out in Senegal and Saint-Louis
I wrote like this:

Racontez ce que vous avez appris et découvert au Sénegal plus particulierement á Saint-Louis

Au Senegal j'ai rencontré une culture trés differente que ce que je suis m'habitué à.
La religion est une partie visible de la vie de peuple,
quand même ils ne sont pas des musulmans extrémes.
Plusiers fois et tous les jours on entend les appels pour prier.

La religion a une grande influence sur la maniére de pensée:
combien on peut agir des choses propres,
comment on se comporte dans les places publiques
et combien on respecte les places communes.

J'ai compris qu'une très grand partie de gens ne veulent pas espérer
ou rêver parce que ils pensent que espoirs ne se réaliseront pas.
Tout bonne que vient, vient seulement si Dieu veut.
L'avenir est dehors de influence de l'homme.
Cette mentalité doit être un grand obstacle contre développement.

Dans les places publics on se comporte bien à l'egard des autres,
on s'habille élégamment et on salue poliment aussi avec les inconnus.
Mais on ne respecte pas la place même.
On ne pense pas que le place publique est "la nôtre" ou pour nous.
On considére comme ce n'est appartient à personne.
Seulement les territoires des familles sont respectés et sont nettoyés - dans la rue.

Voilà, expression amicale dans environs malpropres.
